Steinbach, MB. June 16, 2017 – Manitoba Education and Training Minister, Hon. Ian Wishart has officially issued a request for proposals (RFP) from architectural consulting teams to finalize the design and tender for a new school in Niverville, Manitoba. The new school will be situated within the catchment area of the Hanover School Division.
Announced today via Government of Manitoba news release, the Minister confirmed funding for a new high school for 450 Grade 9 to 12 students in Niverville, with the capacity to expand to serve 550 students with the future construction of a four-classroom addition. The new 66,700-sq.-ft. Niverville high school will have regular classrooms, science labs and an art room plus other specialized spaces such as a large library, computer rooms, resource teaching and guidance areas, life-skills suite, multipurpose room, band room, drama room, a large gymnasium and fitness room. The facility will also feature an integrated child-care centre.
HSD Board Chair, Ron Falk commented, “Hanover School Division is very excited to have been awarded a new high school in Niverville. This request has been the top item in our five year plan to the PSFB (Public Schools Finance Board) for a number of years. It is very encouraging for the school community, as well as the wider Niverville community, to see the Province take note of their rapidly growing community and the resulting space pressure in their schools.” The Hanover School Division is very pleased for the residents of Niverville and celebrates this exciting announcement on their behalf.
The Board of Trustees and administration of the Hanover School Division are appreciative of the funding Public Schools Finance Board provides to Hanover Schools, and express gratitude towards the government of Manitoba, and the Minister of Education and Training for today’s announcement.
Hanover School Division has agreed to work with the Public Schools Finance Board on an expedited schedule that will enable project tendering in early 2018.
