Incident – Kleefeld School Evacuation

Incident updates or urgent messages will be posted on this page. We will update this page as quickly as possible during a critical incident – as information becomes available. Updates will also be posted on our Twitter account at @HanoverSD. When applicable, automated messages will also be sent out to parents/guardians by email and phone through our Bright Arrow messaging system. In such instances, messages will be sent to the primary email/telephone number we have on file for your child.


November 29, 2019  

2:00 pm – Repairs to the nearby gas line are now completed and Kleefeld school has been deemed safe to re-enter. The school will be open on Monday morning, and all classes will run as scheduled. Parents are welcome to pick-up student belongings this afternoon through till 3:45pm.

11:46 am – Kleefeld School is closed for today and will remain closed until further notice. HSD will consult with Manitoba Hydro and the Fire Department to determine a timeline for the gas line repair. We anticipate school to be open on Monday. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

11:14 am – Due to the nature of the gas leak, RCMP and Fire Officials have indicated that the school is not safe to re-enter. Therefore school has been cancelled for the remainder of this day. Students will only be released to their parents/guardians. Sign-out will be required. Parents may proceed now to pick-up their children at the following locations:
K, Gr. 1, 2, 8 – Kleefeld Rec Hall
Gr. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 – Kleefeld Fire Hall

10:45 am – Kleefeld School has been evacuated. A gas line was cut. The fire department is on scene. Students have been moved to their designated safe location. Parents are asked to avoid the area. More details to follow.
