Making a Difference for Delainey
We are thrilled to share a heartwarming and powerful reminder of how small acts of kindness can have a huge impact. Through the “Tabs for Wheelchairs” initiative, pop can tabs collected by caring individuals and schools across the province are now directly supporting one of our very own students in the Hanover School Division — Delainey.
Delainey is a vibrant and joyful 13-year-old student in Grade 6 at Stonybrook Middle School in Steinbach. As the oldest sibling to two younger sisters and a younger brother, Delainey is deeply loved by her family and school community. Diagnosed at just three weeks old with Trisomy 13 (Patau syndrome), a rare genetic condition, Delainey has overcome extraordinary medical challenges and continues to beat the odds with a resilient and radiant spirit. Although non-mobile and non-verbal, Delainey is incredibly expressive and full of life. She is known for her cheerful “hellos” and high fives, her love for school — especially gym and bus rides — and her affectionate bonds with her EAs and peers. She also enjoys music, car rides, and is a proud foodie!
Thanks to the generosity of those who collect and donate pop can tabs, we are excited to announce that Delainey will be receiving her very own specialized wheelchair in 2026 — a life-enhancing gift made possible in part by your continued support. To all students, staff, and families in Hanover and beyond who take the time to contribute tabs: thank you. Your efforts are truly making a difference — not just in theory, but in the real lives of students like Delainey.
Let’s keep going! Please continue collecting and sending in your tabs. Together, we are turning something small into something truly significant.
