Update on Suspended Classes
Following the recommendations of the Chief Provincial Public Health Officer, the Minister of Education has directed all schools to suspend classroom learning indefinitely for this school year. This action is necessary to help contain the spread of COVID-19. The official news release is listed below.
Please note that an indefinite suspension is open-ended. Classes may resume before the end of the school year, but only if it is safe to do so, as determined by the Chief Provincial Public Health Officer. At present, there are no set plans to resume classes this school year.
For the week of April 6-10, learning from home will proceed as previously scheduled. Beyond April 10th, students will be expected to continue learning in this same manner. The details of which are being finalized in consultation with the Department of Education.
The Minister of Education has stressed that no student should, in any way, be penalized for this time away from usual classes. Students who were on track to graduate this year will graduate. No student will be held back a grade because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Provincial exams will be cancelled. However, assessments will continue, and students will have the opportunity to improve on their current marks. Students will receive a final grade and report card. We will work to minimize the potential impact this suspension has on the next school year and will arrange for learning recovery where needed.
