Blumenort School – Gr. 5 & 6 Cohorts

Manitoba Public Health officials and the Hanover School Division have been responding to multiple confirmed cases of COVID-19 at Blumenort School. In all cases, close contacts of staff and students were identified and advised to self-isolate along with their household members.

To avoid further escalation of cases and mitigate community impact, Hanover School Division (in consultation with Public Health) will transition Grades 5 & 6 cohorts to remote learning for two weeks, effective June 10 – June 23 inclusive. The school will remain open, and classes for all other grades will continue as scheduled.

We recognize that this decision will require parents/caregivers of students in these cohorts to make alternate care arrangements. HSD will accommodate children (those not required to self-isolate) of eligible critical services workers who cannot make such arrangements. We will also provide accommodation for any high-risk or special needs students in the Grades 5 & 6 cohorts. While at school, children of critical service workers will participate in and receive support for the same teacher-led remote learning that their classmates receive from home.

Teachers of the affected cohorts will contact parents/caregivers to set the learning plan for the next two weeks. Thursday and Friday will be independent learning at home, and teachers will contact each family on these days. Synchronous learning will commence Monday, June 14. If you have any questions or require technology to support this transition, please contact your child’s school to discuss your needs.

We appreciate your understanding and patience as we collectively do everything we can to ensure the safety and well-being of our students, staff and families.
