Confirmed Case of COVID-19

Sept. 12, 2021

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Manitoba public health officials have advised of at least one confirmed case of COVID-19 in Woodlawn School on September 8th & 9th in Grade 1 and/or Bus #62 when the individual(s) may have been infectious.

Within 24 hours of a confirmed COVID-19 laboratory test, Public Health begins an investigation to identify individuals who may have been exposed. Public Health has access to enrollment information such as school class lists and contact information for parents/caregivers and staff.

To avoid further escalation of cases and mitigate community impact, Hanover School Division (in consultation with Public Health) will move the affected Grade 1 class at Woodlawn School to remote learning effective immediately through September 23. Parents/Caregivers of students in the affected class have been notified. These students may return to class on Friday, September 24. The school will remain open, and classes for the remaining Grade 1 students and all other grades will continue as scheduled. We recognize that this decision will require parents/caregivers of students in the Grade 1 class to make alternate care arrangements.

The teacher of the affected class will contact parents/caregivers to set the learning plan for the next two weeks. Monday will be independent learning at home, and the teacher will contact each family on Monday. Synchronous learning will commence on Tuesday, Sept.14. If you have any questions or require technology to support this transition, please contact your child’s school to discuss your needs.

The school will be cleaned, disinfected, and sanitized using our sanitization sprayer. Please be assured that HSD is working closely with provincial health authorities to ensure necessary measures continue to be in place to protect all students and staff.

We appreciate your understanding and patience as we collectively do everything we can to ensure the safety and well-being of our students, staff and families.

Respectfully,

Shelley Amos, Interim Superintendent/CEO
Hanover School Division
