Online Registration for Kindergarten (NOW OPEN)

Parents/Guardians are encouraged to register their children as soon as possible upon the opening of registration, or by mid-February at the latest. Registering early will assist schools in preparation and planning for the upcoming school year. Early registration also provides parents/guardians with the opportunity to participate in upcoming 2019-20 orientation activities.

Prior to submitting registration, please confirm the designated catchment school for your child. Students are required to attend the school within the catchment area in which they reside. If after viewing the maps listed below, you are unsure of your designated catchment school, please proceed with online registration and select "unsure" in the respective drop-down box provided. STEP 1


SUBMIT ONLINE REGISTRATION
Required input includes your child’s birth certificate number, MB health card number, address of residence, and parent/guardian contact information. Email notification of form received will be sent to applicant email address provided on form.

IMPORTANT! Submitted registration forms will be processed by school officials. Applicants will receive an initial email indicating receipt of application, then after the form is processed, will receive a second email confirming status of application with instructions to complete the second step of registration. Please do not proceed to STEP 2 (delivering supportive documentation) until directed to do so.

STEP 2


BRING SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION TO SCHOOL
When instructed to do so, applicants will be required to visit their child's designated school and provide supportive documentation. Registration is not considered complete, until supporting documentation has been verified by the school office.

One form of documentation is required for each of A, B, C, and D categories.

A. Medical/Health Insurance Coverage
One of the following must be provided:
  • Manitoba Medical Card listing the child and parent(s) name, or copy of application
  • Other medical card listing child and parent(s) name from another province
  • Proof of private insurance on a monthly basis

    B. Residency
    One of the following must be provided (with current address):
  • Utility Bill
  • Mortgage Documents
  • Building Permit
  • Property Tax Bill (for primary residence ONLY, and not rental property)
  • Rental/Lease Agreement
  • Accepted “Offer to Purchase” with possession date Indicated
  • Manitoba Health Card

    C. Student Age Verification
    One of the following must be provided:
  • Birth Certificate (preferred)
  • Canadian Passport
  • Treaty Card
  • Baptismal Certificate
  • Statutory Declaration to a Commissioner of Oaths or Notary Public

    D. Citizenship
    One of the following must be provided:
  • Birth Certificate (preferred)
  • Canadian Passport
  • Treaty Card
  • Baptismal Certificate
  • Statutory Declaration to a Commissioner of Oaths or Notary Public
    Not Citizens? Then one of the following must be provided: Landed Immigrant (Permanent Residence) Documents, Work Visa, Study Visa/Permit, or Refugee Status Documentation.
  • What is the age eligibility for Kindergarten Registration

    Children must be 5 years of age on or before December 31, 2019.

    My child currently attends Kindergarten in HSD. Do I need to register them for Grade 1?

    No. Children currently enrolled in HSD Kindergarten classes, do not need to be registered again for Grade 1.

    May I complete the online registration anytime after Jan. 7, 2019?

    Can I register in-person at the school, or call to register?

    We encourage all applicants to register online as this is the most efficient means to collect the necessary information. If you do not have access to the Internet, please visit the school nearest your place of residence for assistance (after Jan. 7, 2019). Staff will assist you in completing the registration form on a school computer

    Which catchment school should I select on the registration form?

    Students are required to attend the school within the catchment area in which they reside. Click to View Catchment Area Maps. School officials will confirm your child’s designated school based upon address documentation.

    I will be moving to the Hanover area, can I register for the catchment school where I intend to live?

    Yes, but you must provide proof of purchase or rental agreement that verifies address of residence.

    May I choose to send my child to an HSD school outside our designated residence catchment area?

    The Schools of Choice initiative facilitates parental/student choice, within limits, in selecting the public school best suited to the student’s learning requirements. If planning to make application for School of Choice, first proceed with online registration based upon current residence catchment –  then follow instructions on how to apply for School of Choice. School of Choice Applications have a provincially-mandated deadline of May 15.
